The Rose-Veiled Fairy Wrasse is a new species of fish discovered in early March off the coasts of the Maldives. Found to inhabit the coral reefs off the shore, this marvel of nature’s colors aren’t photoshopped. Like others in the wrasse family, this beautiful species uses its bright colors and large fins in mating “dances” to attract females. If I were a fish, I’d be in love with their bright colors as well.
This discovery is just a testament to the wonders of the ocean and how, despite making up over 70% of our planet, we know less about the oceans than we do space. The discovery of new species of fish is so exciting, as it teases the imagination as to what exotic, beautiful, or almost alien fish still exist in our oceans undiscovered.
